Amazing talk by Mike Rowe, the host of Dirty Jobs, on the virtues of manual labor. I remember being told as a kid to get good grades or I’d “end up digging ditches for a living.” Not a great motivator. Later, in my early twenties, I spent a lot of time digging ditches as an apprentice Electrician. I was surprised by how rewarding that simple task was. Since then, I’ve always felt the most enjoyment from manual jobs, even though I still regularly hear from family members how much potential I’m wasting because I’m “just so smart.”
